Let's talk about Vampires

For the love of God, can we be done with Vampires? They are everywhere! I 86ed Vampires about the time Blade:Trinity hit theatres. It's really gotten out of hand. Over the last 10 years, how many palatable vampire movies can you count? Three?  Less? In this writer's opinion, Vampires have worn out their welcome. Bled it dry, to use an apropos metaphor.

and of course, I would be remiss if I didn't mention those Twilight films

I can count on one hand how many of those films actually entertained me. Can you claim any different? Why are they still making these? Who is the target audience? I guess I understand that some people have a lifelong obsession with the occult, and the Twilight films, of course, have a built-in fan base, but really, can we give vampires a rest? Hollywood has flooded the market with vamp pics and now every new film is just more white noise!

I am Legend was great and even Fright Night was more impressive than I would have ever thought. But everything else is just junk. Abe Lincoln Vamp Hunter? I had the misfortune of terrible judgement when it came to this film. The previews looked just stellar. And the books got excellent reviews. But the screenplay seemed to miss the point entirely. I would get into it - but I really do not have the time or character count to explain why this film was so terrible.

How about Underworld? This franchise, like so many others, started out with a bang. It was interesting, the vampires were badass, Kate Beckinsale was hot - it was a formula that worked. But sadly, the finished product has gone stale. The newest Underworld wasn't even worth the dollar at Redbox. It's obvious at this point that the franchise is exhausted.

And of course, there is Twilight 1,2,3,4 and 10. Will these movies never end? It is really not worth the grief to write it, but the Twilight movies are just cinematic abominations that the God's vomited upon the earth.

I understand that you may not agree with me. Perhaps Vampires are your thing. Perhaps every new vampire-premised movie that adorns the movie theatre wall is a breathe of fresh air for you. But even you must agree, there is such a thing as "Too much of a good thing". And vampires, love them or hate them, need a good, solid break from Tinseltown.
