Let's talk about Vampires

For the love of God, can we be done with Vampires? They are everywhere! I 86ed Vampires about the time Blade:Trinity hit theatres. It's really gotten out of hand. Over the last 10 years, how many palatable vampire movies can you count? Three?  Less? In this writer's opinion, Vampires have worn out their welcome. Bled it dry, to use an apropos metaphor.
See for yourself!
Vampire movies of the last decade include:

Dracula II: Ascension
Dracula III: Legacy
Van Helsing
Dracula 3000
Underworld 1,2 and 3

Ultraviolet
I am Legend
Let me in
Priest
Fright Night
Dark Shadows
Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter
and of course, I would be remiss if I didn't mention those Twilight films

I can count on one hand how many of those films actually entertained me. Can you claim any different? Why are they still making these? Who is the target audience? I guess I understand that some people have a lifelong obsession with the occult, and the Twilight films, of course, have a built-in fan base, but really, can we give vampires a rest? Hollywood has flooded the market with vamp pics and now every new film is just more white noise!

I am Legend was great and even Fright Night was more impressive than I would have ever thought. But everything else is just junk. Abe Lincoln Vamp Hunter? I had the misfortune of terrible judgement when it came to this film. The previews looked just stellar. And the books got excellent reviews. But the screenplay seemed to miss the point entirely. I would get into it - but I really do not have the time or character count to explain why this film was so terrible.

How about Underworld? This franchise, like so many others, started out with a bang. It was interesting, the vampires were badass, Kate Beckinsale was hot - it was a formula that worked. But sadly, the finished product has gone stale. The newest Underworld wasn't even worth the dollar at Redbox. It's obvious at this point that the franchise is exhausted.

And of course, there is Twilight 1,2,3,4 and 10. Will these movies never end? It is really not worth the grief to write it, but the Twilight movies are just cinematic abominations that the God's vomited upon the earth.

I understand that you may not agree with me. Perhaps Vampires are your thing. Perhaps every new vampire-premised movie that adorns the movie theatre wall is a breathe of fresh air for you. But even you must agree, there is such a thing as "Too much of a good thing". And vampires, love them or hate them, need a good, solid break from Tinseltown.

Let's talk about Star Wars

I genuinely believe that Star Wars is, and always will be, the cornerstone of Nerdom. Nerds were born of Star Wars and are largely responsible for the continuing popularity and worship of the SW franchise to this day. Does that make us responsible for Episodes 1-3? Maybe, but it's much more satisfying to blame George Lucas. It is because of our "Shut up and take our money" attitude that Lucas has continued to rape the movies we know and love. How blind we were to think that "Han Shot First" was the worst it was going to get. And how excited we were for Episode 1 to come out, thinking it might redeem him in our eyes. But it was not to be! Episode 1 made me die a little inside. Though Quigon Jin and the fight scenes of the film were at least enteretaining, the movie failed to live up to it's older brothers and fell flat with most Star Wars fans and hope died. I find the most interesting thing about this movie was that it had both the best character and the worst character of all 3 prequels: Jar Jar Binks and Darth Maul. Unfortunately, Lucus killed the one we loved and made us watch the one we hated for 3 long movies. The trailers for Episode 2 didn't look much better and we all knew what was in store for us. but we went, didn't we? Not unlike a yearly Gyno exam. You know you have to go but you pretty much dread it. And afterwards you just feel sore and violated. By the time Revenge of the Sith came around we were almost excited again. The birth or Darth Vader! The exile of Yoda and Obi-wan! The fall of the Jedi! And to be fair, I, personally, was not as disappointed with this one. I almost enjoyed it. The high I left the theatre with made me forget 1 and 2 and almost forgive Lucas for making them. This of course only lasted until the TV series. And now we are dealing with the consequences of continuing to pay to see what Lucas does next. After the series comes the blu-rays. And after the blu-rays I would hazard to guess that we can expect the 3D re-releases. So I ask you - when is enough enough? It's coming to a point where even George Lucas doesn't know what's cannon anymore. For God's sake, he's even contradicting himself! Have you had enough, fellow Star Wars fan? Have you shelled out money to Lucasfilms in the last ten years? Than you are part of the preoblem, just as I am. Isn't it time to stop encouraging him? We are positively reinforcing the idea that his changes and re-releases are appreciated - they're not. Regardless of the last decade of Star Wars hisory, these films are beloved to most nerds and that is not likely to change - ever. Perhaps history will forget the prequels and remember the originals and, with any luck, future generations will not have to go what we went through these past ten years. And as much as I hate what Star Wars has become I will always be grateful to George Lucas for what the very first 3 films gave me. They helped define even who I am today. So go in peace, young Jedi. And may the force be with you.

Let's talk about an Intro

Good (morning/afternoon/evening) fellow nerd! Welcome to my website. It doesn't really matter who I am or who you are, just that we are brothers. The common thought is that in today's world there are more nerds than ever. WRONG! It is my sincere belief that it is, in fact, quite the opposite. The problem really is that the accepted definition for the word "nerd" has been bastardized. The lines have been blurred and it seems now that anyone obsessed with any franchise can be claim the coveted label of "nerd". I reject this and so should you! "Twilight nerd"? What an oxymoron! I am here to help you navigate through the flooded streets of Nerdom to higher ground, where we can create a new Utopia. It's time to take back our books, our comics, our cartoons, our heroes, our villians, our games and our labels and let the world know that we are done standing by, grinding our teeth while teenage girls put on chunky framed glasses, pick up an xbox control and loudly proclaim themselves Nerds. We reject it! Down with this sort of thing! It is time to define a clearer understanding of who we are and what we will tolerate. Let's talk about nerds.
